Help with getting rid of soldier ants?
Question:Every Spring no matter how clean my kitchen is I have to deal with soldier ants. What can I do to get rid of them? Maybe a homemade remedy or andy suggestions as to what to buy at the store? I have a puppy and I dont want the fumes to hurt him.

Oh! I know this one!
I always had to deal with that when I had my dog because she'd get kibble everywhere. They make these little round ant traps you can buy in the store, they look like black discs. I would put them next to their trails and the entrances into the house they'd use. There's usually about 3 or 4. Anyway, put them under the corner of a couch or under a heat register next to the door. Your puppy won't get them there and the ants will be gone on about 3 days. No joke! Throw the traps away at the end of summer and you maybe next year you can get a head start.
It's definitely not the least expensive route but it worked for me. A commercial exterminator treated the perimeter of the house with a barrier, then he left a couple of traps for me to use if ants re-appeared in the kitchen. A couple of days after he treated, they reappeared (I think driven inside by rain). I opened one of the traps, apparently whatever was in it was delicioso to the ants. They get the gel on them, carry it back to the colony then they all die. They're completely gone, at least for now, hopefully for the season at least..
Try a product called Terra - found at Lowes, Wally World, etc in the garden centers... just ask someone there. comes in a small bottle & works well. jus' put a little bit in a place out of reach of kids & pets. ants find it & take it back to the colony... so they say. it does work tho... 4 sure.
Try Boric Acid despite its name, it's safe for kids & pets. You just sprinkle it around. Also use ant traps. They make them for outside use. Place them by the doors, foundation etc.
Last summer, I came home from vacation only to find the same problem. A trip to my local Ace hardware, $20 spent on in the house and out of the house products and they were no more.
I used the little "houses" for inside, Terro on a piece of cardboard in the garage and then outside "stakes" around the yard.
I haven't seen an ant in the house - or outside for that matter-since.
If they are the bigger ants you
can buy a cucumber and
slice it in slices leave the peeling on it
an place pieces of it around where the ants
are and it will kill them. Works every time.
