What stain should i use on tanalised timber decking?

Question:I put down some tanalised decking last summer and used Cuprinol Sprayable Decking Treatment to cover it but in large areas it has already flaked off. Can anyone tell me where i went wrong?

Answers:
You must prepare the surface
properly, and then use Ronseal
it does what it says on the tin..

tanalised timber really should not need treating for several years especially if it was pressure treated, unless you use a similar treatment you should have waited at least a year before treating.
You cannot do much better than cuprinol, but maybe you should try it in a different form than a spray. Some paint manufacturers still use it in their more expensive stains. Spend the extra money on the stain once, and not on the labor of having to re-seal every year. Call around, but I think it is Sherwin-Williams.

Prepare the deck surface by sanding to raw wood first. Then roll the stain on with a normal paint roller, it's too thick to spray, and that might have been your problem. Make sure you buy a pigmented stain. The more pigment, the better UV protection. Without UV protection, no sealer or stain will make it for a long time.
