Answers:
the bamboo that i have is in a glass jar filled with rocks and water...

just put the stick in a jar that gives it enough room around the edges for pebbles or stones. fill it up, then add water... once a month i add some liquid fertilizer that is made for bamboo

I have Lucky Bamboo and i just put it in water and some rocks and they have grown and stayed healthy for a whole year now oh yeah they seem to grow best in natural light. You never want the bamboo to be completely dry even when moving into different containers or vases rap a damp napkin around it especially if transporting from store to home.
We planted bamboo as a fence line at the edge of our property (in TX) and regretted it for years to come. You chop it down, it comes back. It spreads faster than rabbits. If you want to contain it, you must put metal plates 12" into the soil to stop the roots from propagating. So unless you want to feed a herd of koalas, I'd keep that bamboo in the house.
