What would you buy with $100 dollars that would help better the environment?
Question:Would you make a homemade solar hot water heater or buy a bunch of compact flourescent bulbs and donate them to help get the word out? Tell me what you would do to help save the planet for our future generations.
Answers:
I would invest that pocket change to buy stock in oil companies. Then, when the next gas hike hits, i'll turn around and sell the stock for a profit. The profit (worth more than a measly $100) can then be used for more than just a hand out to our future generations. Like say purchasing 100 acres of pristine wilderness to keep it from developers.
Buy some plants & trees.
I just bought 10 cloth grocery bags and gave 3 each to my sisters-in-law.
Buy furnace filters. The amount of energy wasted because of plugged or dirty filters is guessed to be 10 to 15% of energy used to heat or cool a home.
coal. and matches..
Use it as "seed money" to prepare yourself for a long-term commitment to improve and protect our environment.
Use it to purchase books on environmental issues, or to subscribe to journals that discuss environmental problems, or to attend seminars and workshops where experts present the latest scientific research on relevant issues, or to finance trips with environmental groups where they combine teaching with cleanup work, or to fund the cost of joining a environmental group, or to offset the cost of doing volunteer public education on environmental issues. There are so many ways and places you can start your journey.
In other words, I suggest you use it to educate yourself on the concepts of environmental stewardship and sustainability. With this solid knowledge you will speak to others with authority on the subject, and be able to educate and help others protect our fragile earth. Your $100 may touch many people over many years, and make a real impact.
What a wonderful question and goal! Best of luck to you!
