Looking to surprise my husband with a new pool light for our in ground pool?

Question:What is the difference between 12v and 120v? Which type do I purchase?

Answers:
12 v is low voltage v 120 volt take the old one out and look inside the fixture or and the outside of it should be stamped on it rember the fixture is a water tight so make sure all seal are good and in there proper place
To replace
make sure ALL power to pool is shut off
reach down and there will ether be a clamp or a screw holding the fixture in the wall of the pool prob look like a big eyeball when you take it out

should have some extra cord coiled up behind the fixture maybe just enough to place it on the pool edge remove houseing screws holding the lens cover replace blub

if you want to replacethe whole fixture comeing out of the back of the fixture will be a black cord most of the time it runs tho a pipe up and over to the pool eqt find it disconnect the wires tie a string to the end of the wires (as you pull the cord out you pull the string in) attach new cord and pull the string back tho the pipe rehook the wires as you disconnected them in the same order black with black, white with white, green with green remount fixture back in pool wall and you should have a new working pool light rember turn all power OFF!!

don't mess up with that ...have it installed by a professional. pool electricity is tricky. definitely, I'm no pro but I think you should go with 12v to prevent electrical shock. again call a real technician for that installation.
