Egg whites sprayed on the leaves will keep animals from eating them and it won't harm the plants. A light spray will be fine ...no need to drench it.

i've been told that putting marigolds around ur garden ( not even completely, just a few here and there ) will keep rabbits out of ur yard. not sure about deer, but there is a way.
I live in an area with a high deer population as well. And there are numerous things people say work to keep deer away; ranging from hanging nylon sacks filled with hair to sprinkling soap shavings around the perimeter of your property.

However, the only thing that proved effective was chicken wire; we had to build covers for all our gardens, flower beds, small trees and shrubs. It was a little labour intensive, but it did work. And being in a frost-zone as well, the covers proved helpful in preventing frost damage.

But it wasn't until we got a dog -- a Husky/Heeler cross -- that the deer began to give the property a wide berth.
You can get a shot gun, killed them or scare the carp out of them, but if you want to go less violence you can go to your local fireworks shop, get your self some fireworks that make a pop noice like a gun, and went you see the deers or the rabbit scared them, i know that the deer wont come back after the first time you do it , or you can go higher and go to wallmart and get deer repellent and i am not sure if they sell rabbit repellent.
We own a garden center in Arkansas, and we have lots of customers with deer problems. The cheapest and easiest ways are: 1. Go to your local hair salon and ask for the hair clippings, if you hang the hair in knee high panty hose around your garden it will keep the deer out at least until it rains. They can smell the hair and think a human is in the garden, it works, but eventually they will get used to the smell. 2. If you post stakes around the edge of your garden and string clear fishing line around, it will keep the deer out for longer, deer won't typically jump over anything they can't see, but you have to hang it about chest level to a deer, when they start to go into your garden they will feel it hit them but they won't jump over.
Chicken wire isn't that costly and works well for most critters. Make sure it's tight to the ground.
Tin Pie plates. String them up on wire or fishing line around your garden like a fence. The shiny plates and noise will scare off most animals.

If you have males in your household, have them pee around the garden. Sounds gross, I know. But the urine smell will also scare off deer.

Borrow a friends dog (or more than one) and chain them near your garden. This will help scare away deer and rabbits both.

Those are the quick fixes...

Next year, plant marigolds around your garden. These deter a lot of animals because of the strong smell.
Use chicken wire around your garden to fence out rabbits. Hang pie plates on the fence to catch the wind and bang around to scare off deer.

Good luck, and I hope you have enough left over to enjoy for yourself!
