Nettle flowers?

Question:Ok this will sound stupid but can anyone tell me about the flowers in nettles. I used to suck them when i was younger, and they tasted lovely. Are they ok to put in your mouth-providing nothing has wee'd on it, and did anyone else do this? Lol.

Answers:
yeh i used to do that. not done it for years now. im going nettle hunting later.

You can make nettle soup with them, or tea; though I've never tried it.

Also, my sister reckon the Romans introduced nettles to Britain, using the stalks for making fibre to weave cloth.
I did (still do) that with honeysuckle flowers. I'd be too chicken to try that with nettles - sometimes they even sting through gloves and jeans. OK, so my jeans have holes...
I have made nettle soup - it is delicious. I cut the young nettles with clippers and let them fall into a basket or colander, wash them in the sink using tongs to handle. Make the soup with potatoes, onion, salt, pepper and the nettles, just boiling them up together. Put through a blender briefly (or use a hand blender) then add cream.

So to answer the question directly, it is fine to put nettle flowers in your mouth.
Hey that's great another old remedy being used ... you can use the flowers in salads ... make a light flavoured jelly and add flowers when the jelly starts to get cool
