My pond has fish and lots of algae, how to remove the algae safely?

I don't have a pond but I do have a fish tank which is very prone to algae. If you want to go natural I agree with some of the other answers and invest in a algae eater fish, specifically a plecostomus. I have tried other algae eaters, including snails, and nothing beats the appetite of a plecostomus. They also can grow quite large if you give them enough space (a pond sounds like just that space). So one of them can go a long way.
You can buy them at any pet store that sells fish.
Sucker fish! Believe it or not, go down to the fish store and get yourself a couple!!
You can get bricks of barley which will break down the algae (if I'm not mistaken). Look in a store that either carries pond supplies or farm/yard stuff (like Agway if you have those around you).
You can skim it with a pool skimmer on a long pole, or you can do it sort of natural by getting algae eatter fish like cat fish, and snails also eat algae and fish waste. Also get an airetor for your pond, it can also have a fountain on it to put oxygen into the water, this also helps.
