Hi, every country will have botanical collection in Britain each of the countries which make up Britain have their own. They are all on the Internet so easy to contact. If you have a house plant try the Royal Horticultural Society in Britain. It has a web site RHS in the search engine. They have a free general plant id section. At the moment it is £40 to become a member which will give you a one to one help.
There are several books on house plants available in the Garden centres but they cost any thing from five pound upwards. Your local library may have a less up to date copy. If you are still at school and are taking biology or botany as a subject maybe your teacher will allow you to carry out the identification as part of your school work, a project on Linnaeus's ,Darwin. or Walace.
Classification is a little dry unless you have a particular reason for doing it. I enjoy this process as I have to identify plants as part of my job. It give great satisfaction at a job completed and the smile on the plant owners face is amazing when you can help them.
