Those Mr. Clean erasers work wonders. When I worked in retail we used them on the gunky shelves and it was the only thing that worked.

soak small cloth in a winegar and try to wipe it off slowl;y/
Try using gasoline.
When I get a stubborn floor/metal/grease stain, I use Simple Green mixed with Bleach.

Here;s the catch: It makes a very poisonous (phosgene) gas, so I use it with a fan, or in small quanities at a time (less than half a pint indoors with no fan). That will do that trick!
The best cleaner I use is made by 1 teaspoon ammonia,1 teaspoon of dishwashing liquid, 1 tablespoon of vinegar and about 1 cup of water.
This helps cut the stickiness and clean it off real easy.
If it is the kitchen its probably a mixture of grease and dust, which is why its hard to remove. If you can, use hot water, a detergent, and something to give it a bit of a scrub. That should work.
TRY GOO GONE OR THE MR CLEAN ERASER PADS WORKS FORME EVERY TIME! GOOD LUCK
Use a degreaser, Superstore sell's a huge(no name) jug for about 7$,this lasts me about a year!(I'm a clean freak!!)Dilute it or you can use it full strength, sponge it on the area, let it sit about 5 min's and then you just wipe it off, work's great! I swear by it!
