I am near always home and put the a/c at 70 in the am.. and that coolness will stay in the house until noon as long as I keep the blinds closed and the windows shut. Then around 1 or 2pm I kick it to 78 since the family room faces southwest it gets pretty hot in there in the evening, especially if its like 104 like it was yesterday.
73 degrees F.
All the time.
We have it set at 72. In RI it gets very humid, and some days if it gets over 90 I may have to turn it down to 70 if we have a lot of people in the house.

If it isn't humid, and no one is home, I don't turn it on until the thermostat says that the house is over 75.
My husband has the AC set at 69 degrees- all the time. He freezes me to death but he is warm natured and I am just cold hearted I guess.
I always heard the setting your thermostat to 72 degrees and leaving it was the most cost effective.
I've got a programmable thermostat and I believe I have it set at 74 during the day and maybe 76 at night and when I know I'll be gone. Sometimes I have to turn it down to 72 or 73 if it's been in the 90's for a few days.
I have a digital thermostat and generally have it programmed for 78 degrees during the day (8 to 5) while I am at work. Then at 5; I have it programmed to go down to 72 - where it remains until the next morning. On weekends - I have it set in a similar manner, but rather than 78 I chose 75. Keep in mind however that I live in Texas and this time of year - the daily outside temp is well over 90.
whether were home or not we keep it at 72...when its really hot out..the lowest we go is 68..this helps with the energy usage and the light bill..also when your going to be gone long periods of time id leave it on at least 75
When I am home during the day I keep it at 77 or 78, but I wear shorts and loose shirts. If I am not going to be home for more than 12 hours I adjust to 82. I do like it a bit cooler for sleeping around 74. ( interesting that in the winter , I would find this to be too hot).

What you wear has alot to do with how comfortable you are going to be.. Wear cotton loose clothing that breathes. Also keep your feet cool with sandles or flip flops.
well it is 90 degrees outside now and humid as he**, the ac is set at 74 degrees...when we are home and gone.
I do one thing different though.I close up all the drapes and blinds on the windows that the sun is coming into (helps keep the heat out) as the sun moves in the sky I move around in the house opening and closing blinds..pain in the butt sometimes, but I have to say it really helps!! and rooms that we are not in that often I close the vents part way. the ac has turned on only 4 times today..
76* . Home or not.
I leave my a/c on 78 degrees @ all x,s
