I'm trying to decorate a couple of bathrooms in my house . and okay - help!?

Question:the previous owners had decorated one bathroom with over-bearing wallpaper that has vertical purple and green (exact Barney colors) stripes going down it with gold-colored leaf patterns, and the floor is a cream-tile color. All I would like to do is get a rug for it and maybe a hand towel - what colors might be able to work with this?

Answers:
I would play up the cream tile color as much as possible, for that would give your bathroom the illusion of looking larger.

Use soft cream colored towels. For a hand towel/finger tip towels and rug, look for cream as your base color with purple and green accents (i.e. a violet flower with a green stem on the rug or towel would be ideal, tie-in the colors without being total overkill). You know?

I would stay away from the gold leaf tie in completely unless it is leaf shaped guest soaps or something in a decorative dish. Your purple/green wall paper speaks for itself and so it will look completely balanced if you off-set it.

Good luck, have fun!

u can either stick w/ the golds or purples/green or go w/ yellow tones to pull out more of the golds instead of "gold". Or move to anther color ..which would b orange. or jst do whites...
Oh, my...deepest sympathies! Maybe they missed Mardi Gras (purple, gold and green are traditional Mardi Gras colors) and New Orleans.

There's two ways to go...tone it down, or take it over the top.

To tone it down, go with ONE of the three tones, bring it down a bit darker, and use that for all accents (towels, rug)...me, I'd go with gold, or a forest green.

To take it over the top, embrace Mardi Gras...add a Mardi Gras mask or two and related accent pieces...and don't skimp on it...sometimes going a little wild and crazy with a flaw (like that wallpaper) can turn it into fun and funky...and then I'd stay bright gold or green with the towel and rug, too (or red if you brought it in well with the accent pieces)...just stay away from bringing out the purpleness with those...that could go quite wrong.
You could always either take down the wallpaper, or paint over it.

If you don't want to do this, and need to work with what you have, I'd go for gold for any accents.
