What happens when you are having a council exchange, what is the process you have to go through?

Question:

Answers:
both council tenant contact the council to see if they are accepted, if you have any outstanding council tax then dont bother.

you both fill in a form to apply for the exchange at the council, you are then visited by the council inspector to check out your home, they will tell you what repairs are needed (if any), and will write down a list of things ie; decorations and permanent furnishings, that they will give to the other tenants, if the other tenants agree to this list then they have to accept your property as just that. you will receive a list aswell, you then go and visit their property as you there's, the whole process takes about 6 -8 weeks, once you both decide to go ahead its pretty much signing on the line and moving, its all pretty much straight forward as long as your both sure its what you want and neither pulls out at last minute, hope this helped.
you both write to the council and state what it is you want to do ie move, theyt will check if either tennant has rent arrears or anti social behaviour, check both propertys to see if in reasonable condition as will not fix anything that has been done by original tennant so consider this when moving and make sure if any repares need doing do it asap.all this being all and well no arrears etc you may have to give 4weeks notice but may let it if council to council and they will give you the earliest date you can move then you both decide between yourselfs when.
