If you have an above ground pool, are you happy with it and would you recommend getting one?

Question:I am thinking about getting one for my kids.

Answers:
I think our above ground pool was the best thing we ever bought! Sure there are chemicals to buy, but if you get the pool running at an even PH and chlorine level, it's not expensive to take care of at all. When everyone tells you that cleaning it is a pain, remember, you're in the water! Make it a fun time for yourself, and it ceases to be a chore! My kids used to complain that they couldn't use the pool because dad was cleaning (enjoying) it. Just don't let them see you grinning! We used to live in Illinois, and never had to replace our liner, and we had the pool about 8 years. By all means, if you live in a warmer climate, get a pool, you won't regret it! I'm still sorry we moved and left it behind!

My neighbor has one for his kids and he's not very happy with it, but that's because we live in Michigan and the brutal winters wreak havoc with above-ground pools. He's having to replace the liner at least every other year. If you live in a more moderate climate you should be fine, but I'd look into that before sinking that kind of money into a pool.
Think about the "after" costs and labor of any pool. Chemicals are not cheap. You will be constantly working to keep the water clear and cleaning the pool. Be ready, no one will volunteer to help you. You will aquire new friends that you only see in the pool and yet expect you to provide food and drink. Your homeowners insurance may raise. I have had two pools and never saw any of the promises made, kept. If you think you need a pool for the kids, get an easy-set from Walmart and see how it goes.
Anyone that is unsatisfied with their pool is someone that doesn't understand them.

A pool can be maintained with three basic things:
Regular household bleach (non scented)
Baking soda
20 Mule Team borax

These three things will give you sanitation/oxidation for the water (chlorine), alkalinity to help keep the pH buffered and the water sweet (baking soda), pH increasing/buffering power and antimicrobial power from borax.

If you live in a climate that freezes during the winter there are ways to save a liner without having to replace it each and every year, and cheaply too.

If you are seriously thinking about getting a pool please keep my email in mind, robandliz1992@yahoo.com Feel free to drop me a line and I can put you on a schedule that will maintain your pool crystal clear, sanitary, cheaply, and with 20 minutes of maintenance per day or less. I use the same schedules in the facilities I administrate and have never passed a monthly health inspection with less than 99%.
