Will grass and weed killer hurt my gardenias?

Question:I have 2 gardenias in my front yard and I am getting ready to build a small box around them and fill it with mulch. If I spray grass and weed killer to kill the grass growing around them will it hurt the bushes?

Answers:
it is very likely that the weed killer will. Herbicides don't usually discriminate between types of plants. Your best bet would be to cut the grass very very short, get some weed barrier cloth, place it around the base of the plants, build the box, add the mulch.

it depends on the kind of weed killer you get, some will others won't.
No, if you don't get any on them.
