Do spiders crawl out of drains?
Question:My house always seems to be crawling with spiders. But I find them most often in the bathtubs and shower stalls.
Are they crawling out of the drains? I don't see how that's possible, since drain traps are full of water all the time. Do they lay their eggs just inside the lips of my drains? Or what? Why am I always finding them in the bathtubs?
Answers:
NO they can't. one, spiders don't like getting wet and the trap in the sink & tub prevents any kind of bug & sewer gas from coming up from the sewer system. The only reason you find spiders in your tub is because the fall in and can't get out. The sides are to slippery.
Yes they can. I'm not positive on how long but they can hold their breath for something like 2 days. I had some in my bathtub before, if you find any kill then, don't let them go back down. Also, try to put a non-toxic pesticide down your drain. Hopefull it'll kill the spiders and leave your tub fine.
every faucet, toilet, tub and water heater has a vent tube that vents to the outside whether out in your yard or on top of your house or under your house in a crawl space.and that's how they get in. I now back east people have had snakes go down the vent tubes because they are dark and cool and end up coming up in peoples toilets. Find out where you plumbing vents from and then spray that area.
I was gonna be a smartie and say with their legs. But,
I have to agree with the vent answer. Spiders are small and they can come from anywhere.
Also, it may have gone down the spout to fetch some water and you just caught it going home again.
good question!
Run water through every drain for a minute a day!! Do this for a week!!It should help! If you still see spiders than you know it is not in your drains get some exterminators to come and check rooms with drains and everywhere else you most commonly see spiders.
They are coming in from outside not your drains. They like the bathroom because it is dark most of the time and stays un disturbed for long periods of time. They have ample water supply and the bathroom does not get cleaned as much as the other rooms.
