How do you get rid of flies at a cookout?

Here are a few things that have worked in our backyard. First, I set up a jar with something sugary in it. Make a cone of paper with a small opening in it so that whatever crawls in to get to the sweet stuff will have a hard time finding its way out. This will also attract any bees or wasps that would otherwise bother you. When the day is done you can set them free or not, whatever you feel best.
Then I set up a small fan to blow over the table with the food on it. Flies don't like moving air. I got this idea from a cafeteria I worked in. They had a fan hanging from the ceiling, blowing down on the back door entrance. We hardly ever had any flies get in there.
No pesticides, no weird chemicals, and no flies.
They might add flavor, texture, color and protein to your food, but try citronella candles, fly paper or rent my dog, he loves to eat flyes, is very good at snapping them up and loves BBQ.
Use flypaper with a piece of meat on it. The flies land on the paper and can;t get off. Spray the area before the bbq with one of those outdoor foggers, get a electronic bug zapper and hang it near the grill. Good luck to you.
