Answers:
What area do you live in? In Florida (and other states) there is a type of ant called a "White Footed Ant". Their colonies range from 100,000 to 1,000,000 ants.
If this is what you are dealing with, then you might really want to hire a professional because the best treatment would be a product called Termidor. However, if you want to try to do this yourself, this is what you need to do.
First, you need to cut back all of your bushes, trees, and shrubs off your house. You need to make sure that you have no plants that are touching your house in any way, shape, or form. Second, seal up any holes that the ants may be coming in. Check very well around any water spigots and wiring. You may want to use Vaseline or grease from a grease gun on your phone wires and cable wires to keep the ants from crossing them. Next throw out all of the ant bait you have in the house, you are just drawing more in than you are killing. At this point, you need to treat all of your plumbing voids with a dust, tri-die, delta dust, sevan dust, etc. all work well in these areas. Now you need to treat the outside of the house with a product called Demon WP. It costs around $15 for a concentrate that mixes in one gallon of water. You may need more than one. Treat around the doors, windows, eves, foundation, and any other access points on the outside. Finally, get a bait, Terro liquid, Maxforce fine granulars, etc. and treat AWAY from the house. Look around trees, flowers, and any debris in your yard. Do not put the bait next to the house, this will only draw more to your house, and break down the Demon more quickly. Good luck!
try 7dust
it works 4 me
have an exterminator set off a bug bomb which releases posion gas into your house ( while your out of it ) and later when it disapates you can return
try spreading cinnamon where they are coming in. They hate it and won't cross it.
although Katslookup was correct in the way you would want to treat it you should be very careful, the products he listed are usually found on the restricted use list and are not for the general public, in your Case i would stop treating it myself and have a professional pest control company come and treat it, with most ant colonies spraying just causes budding or satellite colonies which can turn one nest into 5 or more nests
Katslookup is correct if you are trying to treat this yourself. I checked out all the products that she recommended and they can be purchased at any Do-It-Yourself pest control company. I have even seen them for sale on E-Bay. However, you really do have to be careful about separating the colony, like Terry P said. If you do hire a professional, be careful who you hire. Just because you hire a "big name" company, doesn't mean you will get a tech with any real knowledge. If you do hire a professional, if they don't plan to use the Termidor, send them away! Termidor is the best product to use for the White-Footed Ants. Good luck!
have this same problem...
I found out that ants love toilet paper, toothpaste, and they come for the water supply in the bathroom. call your local exterminator and ask them to spray. Can sprays like raid work for a while, but not long enough. You should also find out more about whats under your house. your house could have been built over an ant colony. or you may even have an ant nest in your wall.
As for the kitchen problem they are obviously coming for the food. just make sure you dont' leave food out over night. keep the floors and the counters clean. You should also have an exterminator come spray there too. Having an exterminator come every month will help keep the pests away.
