Got chewed out for saying trailor instead of mobile home,WHAT!?

Question:I Ask about buying a trailer and was informed on the spot they are not called trailors but mobile homes, and that he did not appreciate me saying that. I then I explained my thoughts on the matter, which then he walked/stomped away. WOW! --In the first place i consider anything that has wheels, moves down the road and has and a tongue with 2 rails that has a load on top and that is attached behind a vehicle to be a trailor- and to add to that it would be a house not a home, until it is occupied by people.Which i said to him it should be called a trailor house( which helped him stomp a little faster) And once it has been set up and moved into, I would say you could call it a mobile home, Which to me means it can be moved if need be without tearing it down. Could anybody get me the correct word or answer for this?

Answers:
I agree with you totally. Your logic is perfect (I'm willing to bet that you're a Myers-Briggs type INTP). The salesman wasn't used to someone seeing through his manipulation of language for the purpose of selling stuff.

Sure, a trailer is something on wheels that can be towed down the road by a vehicle. Yes, "home" is where you live. A house might or might not be a home, and the same goes for an apartment, a house on wheels, a tent, a freeway underpass,...

For some really sickening language-twisting, check out the HOMES advertising section of your local newspaper. (How exactly does a building "boast amenities"?) Gack.

that guys got thin skin, lemme tell ya.
And this person was trying to SELL something to you?! Not a very good salesperson.

I live in the south and a lot of people live in "mobile homes". I think calling them trailers is fine. :) Don't sweat it.
I think he was upset because 'trailer' is associated with trash, and 'mobile home is 'fancier'
lmao
oh the pains of being politically correct...lol i still call them trailers
they are very upset with good reason young man!

you see there is a huge difference here...see those that live in mobile homes are 'white trash' those that live in trailers are 'trailer trash' and there is nothing worse than trailer trash...nothing
You've made my day! This is so funny...oh they tend to get very sensitive on the subject some even call them Modular Homes very fancy...humm!! Sorry, but the correct word is Mobile Home and no they don't consider them trailer.
You got to understand that some people but gold faucet in their Mobile Home and tile their driveway...just be careful next time.
both are correct- it's like when you call someone of Hispanic descent Mexican-

whether or not their heritage is Mexican, some are offended, they prefer "Latino" or Hispanic-

it's the same for the trailer park sales person
Everyone I know who has one of those uses the two interchangeably. I used to think a mobile home was a little nicer, but they really seem to be the same thing.
Politically correct crap has gone to the extreme. I didn't
know " trailer dwellers" were so thin skeined. Must have
something to do with the Jerry Springer show.
If he really chewed you out, perhaps he meant a modular home (?) Once transported to it's site, is no longer 'mobile,' let alone a 'trailer.' I would feel insulted to have purchased a pre-manufactured house; yet have someone call my home a trailer. Anyhow, I don't believe you heard him correctly.
he's just mad because the trailer he lives in is not mobile anymore! tires must have gone flat!! LOL
Why bother to explain..sounds like you "STILL" would'nt get it anyway !
Trailers can be moved with a pick-up truck, mobiles homes have to be moved with a tractor trailer. Mobiles homes are manufactured homes just like modulars except they have a steel frame on them. Trailers are not built to HUD code and mobiles home are.
Some one must have called him trailer trash once.

I guess that would be the same as going to HomeDepot and asking for ceiling track and having the sales asociate get pissy & say it's called ceiling Grid,
