Grass problem?
Question:grass have a lot of bald patches, tried fertilizer & it does not work only got a lot of weed. Saw an ad in TV on a product "patches and grow' by putting grass seeds in the bald spot & grass will grow. Is that for real?

I would just by a bag of grass seed from Wal-mart and keep it well watered for a while.
You can have the soil tested from that area by something like Calloways or a good feed and seed shop.
You may have to put down a layer of top soil and then try again.

You've got to figure out why the grass doesn't grow there. do a soil sample test on the bald spot. See if it's real compact; it might need aerating. It might also have mole crickets or something that eats the grass.
