What can I do to help my lawn improve?

Question:Our lawn was planted 4 yrs ago and we stil have bare spots we have reseeded them but cannot seem to improve and fill in the area's that need help.?

Answers:
Get some sand and fill the areas that are bare and need to be reseeded. Sand will hold the seed and grass in place and does not wash away like just top soil. Water the seed every day to make sure it stays moist until the seed start to grow. I have the same problem here in the Sunny deep South--but we have so little water that we cannot water except 2 hours 2X per week. My lawn is turning brown due to no rain and cannot water. Our Governor of Alabama has asked for prayer for rain - I'm praying and prayer is the key to all our problems. Good luck on your lawn.

get grass patches and keep them watered till they take.

I would say also to aerate and fertilize
You need to fertilize at least three to four times per year, and you also need to Lime in the fall, to reduce the acidity in the soil, this is a big problem in yards with large oak trees, also, if you have really hot dry summers, you need to set up a sprinkler system that you can turn on in the evenings to give adequate water supply, for at least three hours, It takes a lot of water after a scorching hot day to replenish the evaporation through the grass stems.

Also, In early spring before your grass grows too much, you need to dethatch it, It's as simple as a mini-tiller that you can walk behind real fast and it pulls the old dead grass that settle on the soil surface up, which is Thatch!

Hope this helps!
dont let the dogs or cats piss on it
we had the same trouble w/ r lawn when we moved into r house close to 12yrs ago & still do to this day. Some of the spots we did everything poss... reseed... weed & feed...insect feed...fungus feed. made sure the sprinklers were hitting correctly...chg the heads... feed 4 x's a yr plus aireate... so we decide to pull up what was left & plant plants. Now we have some other spots as well that we have been dealing with. We're gonna do the same thing, where eventually we will have less & less grass. Esp since we r a corner lot & the water restrictions in r area.

I wish i could tell u a magical way but i would try everything poss. we think that when they poured the foundation that they dropped mud there & it's really hard to grow once that has happened. We even had new sod put in on the side & the guys even replaced some of those spots for us & we r still having problems.

soo mayb u can do some planters in that area?
