First time home owner. How do I control mold in an old basement?

Question:It's not horrific yet, but there are certain areas on the walls that the mold is growing, and I want to keep my family safe. Any suggestions?

Answers:
check for leaks and then seal them up, spray bleach and water on the walls & scrub off existing mold growth, keep it ventilated, and keep stuff from getting piled up in there- especially around the walls. Good luck!

Dehumidifer and scrub the walls with a clorox water base solution, have plenty of ventilation gotta get dampness out of there
get some clorox water and spray it downa nd a good bristle...stiff brushg and scrub..then rinse ..id do this every 3 weeks to help keep the mold down..breathing mold is aterrible health hazard ya know
sounds like you have moisture try a dehumidifier...If the area is washable.wash with hot water and bleach.bleach will kill the mold but if you don't get all of it . it will come back...
get a mop, and a bleach-water solution. but first you MUST get it under control, your home is full of mold spores that will make you and your family very sick.
Use a dehumidifier
Mold is not good. Definitly get the mold "spores out of there" and also, clean all the floors and walls. You might have to do a few patch tests in order to make sure there is no molds lurking behind the drywall etc...
We just moved out of a house we rented for six months it i was awful. The smell was so bad we found mold in our crawl space and in the winter it was coming through our heat vents. The landlord got rid of it, visibly. but the smell never went away. My baby and i were the ones home all the time and we were the ones whom were sick all the time. Antibiotics four times in six months. We finally got out of our lease and moved, the smell lingered with me for a month, i swear that is all i could smell and finally it has now been three months and i don't smell that mold smell anymore. We havent been sick and our health is back to good. I would advise you to get rid of the mold asap...
No matter what we did, washed our cement floors, the room where mold was non visible but the smell was, the smell never did go away. We used all kinds javex and baking soda to get rid of it, but didnt' work.

We also used a dehumidifier and that did not help. Landlord kept saying to use it so we did and the water build up was very minimal... I would give the javex cleaning and dehumidifier a try and hope it all works out for you, good luck.

I forgot to mention i had the health board come in and she said soap and water also gets rid of it too. She specializes in molds and such. We tried everything..
