Why is my ice maker's ice yellowish colour?

Question:I have a ice maker in my fridge, but once I have enough ice I turn it off, sometimes for several weeks. After I turn it on agian, the inside of the ice is sorta yellowish and the ice smells like onions. Why is it like this?
The water in my area is very soft so there are very little dissolved minerals in it. Plus my fridge auto defrosts it self so there is no ice on the wall, and my fridge is very clean.

Answers:
If you are turning your ice maker off- the water is just sitting there, becoming stagnant and mixing with other "flavors/odors in the fridge... I would clean the ice maker with some vinegar and let the ice maker cycle through a few and throw the ice away..Or water the plants with it... Then I would put a box of baking soda in the fridge/freezer to eliminate the mixing of odors/flavors and ice.

you have well water and need a prof water co. to set up equipment to fix it the yellow is sulfer in the ground water
