How can I prompt my young chili plants to bush out?
Question:I have several young chili plants outside (planted them when the weather was really nice in April.
Shortly afterwards, the strong winds gave them a bit of a battering which they are just recovering from now - although the new leaves that are growing seem a bit curly and bunched up at the moment.
The only thing is, they do not seem to have 'bushed out' much since being transplanted to pots outside. They are growing some leaves at the top (very slowly), but not sideways.
Is there anyway I can promote this growth?
Would tomato food be advised at this early stage? or is that just when they are producing fruit?
thanks in advance for any advise
Answers:
Just leave them for a few more weeks - then feed and pinch out the top growth - they'll soon bush out sideways - let them get to about 15" - 20" tall first though - more chilis that way
they are still in shock from replanting but that is normal! If any dried /brown leaves are on them -pinch those off and use miracle grow water sprayer with the hose and they will be jumping in no time ( garden kit of miacle grow) 4.99 have been using mine for 4 years now and all my plants are better than without it!
pinch off the first blooms.
Chiles grow best when the night temperature is above 60F
sounds like it's colder than that
make the area wind free and pinch out the tops
