How can i keep squirrels out of my garage?

Question:they chew up my roofing tiles and get in. how can i keep them out?

Answers:
I have used moth balls. They also keep bugs, snakes and squirrels out. I live in the country so I have had these problems..Believe me it works! Good Luck!

Put hardware cloth over the area where they get in. This time of year, however, you might want to wait to make sure they have no babies in there.
Some homeowners resort to more interesting ways of dealing with this problem, such as collecting and planting fur from pets (such as domestic cats and dogs) in attics. This fur will indicate to nesting squirrels that a potential predator roams and will encourage evacuation. Fake owls and scarecrows are generally ignored by the animals, and the best way to prevent chewing on an object is to coat it with something to make it undesirable: for instance a soft cloth or chili pepper paste or powder. Squirrel trapping is also practiced to remove them from residential areas.
I recently heard that they HATE chili. So I would suggest buying some whole hot spicy chili's cutting them up and put them in a plastic bowl at a place where you think they are entering. I guess the smell is enough to keep them away. If you put dried chilli flakes in your bird feeders it will also keep them out of there. Good luck. For us, they keep drowning in our pool, not fun.
I bought some blue jay bird houses. They hate squirrels and will attack them every chance they get.
