How Do I Test My Swimming Pool For Bacteria Content?
Question:Is there a way to see if any bacteria is present?
Answers:
In a properly maintained and chlorinated pool you will not have any bacteria present. The chlorine will kill all bacteria and then oxidize the left over organic material from the water.
You can do a bacterial test but it can be expensive and requires time. However, I would have to question why you want to test for the bacteria. Is there something you are worried about? Are you experiencing problems in your pool?

You could probably buy a test kit but I would just take a sample down to the nearest pool supply store. They can test for a ton of stuff and should do it for free.
One tests a pool for adequate sanitizer: chlorine or salt usually.
Give it a chlorine shock treatment. Ask for details at a pool supply store.
Swimming pool water should be mainly devoid of bacteria, yeasts and moulds. But there is a way to test such 'purified' water, the main way is through filtration. Water is filtered through a membrane with very small gaps (not enough to let a bacterial cell get through). This membrane can either be placed on specific media or broth to allow prolific growth. This in then kept at about 32C for about 3 days. Then you can count how many colonies have grown. Assuming that every single colony has originated from one cell you can calculate how many were in the sample taken.
you got body's swimming, you got bacteria. plain and simple.
what are you looking for? you can have it tested, but why not shock and chlorinate it away. are you looking for the neighbors peeing in your pool after hours? get a night vision camera. have you got kids doing same? get reactive dye that changes when someone lets go, making a cloud of color.
basic chemicals will be just fine unless you got alqueda next door
