My apartment during the summer is cool in the daytime yet HOTT at night y?
Question:I live on the bottom floor in my apartment.it is made out of brick n concrete??.and i border on a wood setting.
I hardly use my a/c in the day but at night it gets soooo hot!! I have to turn it on. Y does this happen?? Is it the construction of the building??
Also in the winter the conditions r reversed. It's an icebox!!

Miss Melty Heart, you must live up in the northern regions of the US? You mentioned cool in the day as opposed to the night. Are you home during the day? Do you run the A/c during the day also? Unless you've got some kind of mechanical leak or something, here's the deal. When sunlight gets inside it warms carpets, upholstery, etc. Even thru half-dark shades and blinds the sun can heat up surfaces. Especially cloth type stuff. That's why at night it can get pretty cool outside, yet you still have heat inside. Most females don't like that "total darkening" type stuff, but that's the way to keep your A/C costs down in the evening. In the winter it's the opposite, let the sun shine in. Then you'll have a little residual heat for the night. During the night it can get into the 60's, yet your A/C will still kick on. That's cause your sofa and carpet still have that retained heat. It could be your brick insulation, but I doubt it. Keep the sunlight out, in the summer, and you'll see a difference. I live in San Antonio Texas, home of the Spurs. Summer heat is part of life down here.
All houses do that. It's called Thermal Lag. Your apartment has been absorbing heat all day and it takes a while for it to enter your apartment. Same thing for winter.
