Answers:
Okay, veggie 101.

If you are planting then in the ground, make sure that it is broke up well. You can do that with a hoe and lots of work. If you are planting in pots, any potting mix will work or you can buy 40 pound bags of topsoil if you have alot of plants.

Make sure that the pots are 8-10" in diameter to give each plant room to grow. You will need to put a stake in the tomato pots and tie the plant to it as the plant grows. Break off the little branches (suckers) on the main stem as they appear to make the plant get taller and you will have larger tomatoes. You will see these little branches appear where the leaves attach to the main stem. They will look like minature tomato plants growing on the main stem. If you plant them, they will grow into more plants.

You won't have to do much with the pepper plants other than plant them and water them. Keep an eye out for insects (holes in the leaves). I would use powdered Sevin for those.

I would recommend getting a fertilizer like Miracle Gro. You add a scoop to water and pour over the plant. If you have rain, you won't need to water. If the leaves are wilting (hanging down) or the top 1/2" of soil is dry, you will need to water, and this is the perfect time to also use Miracle Gro. Get a plastic watering can at the local Walmart, Lowes, or Home Depot. Figure on 1/2 gallon / plant.

At first it may seem confusing, but you will soon become an expert. You will be able to tell when to water, just by glancing at the plant. You will also soon recognize what a sucker is. Your reward will be home-grown veggies.
