Can I cook on top of stove and heat in oven in vintage enamelware ?
Question:I love enamelware and want to collect and use it, but not sure I can..anyone have an answer? thanks
Answers:
Yes, you can use it with a few cautions :)
I use the enamelware in the oven with absolutely no problems whatsover ~ I have a roaster that's about 100 years old and never had a problem with it.
Enamelware on the stove top is a little trickier ~ quite frankly, unless you are boiling water or making soup, enamelware just isn't practical for everyday stove top use. The food has a tendency to stick to the base and will either bake on or burn. After time, the bases get warped and won't lay flat anymore, either. One of my kettles even sprung a leak after 2 years of continuous use.
For stove top, I limit my enamelware use to making hardboiled eggs, heating up soup, home canning, or making coffee or tea. Enamelware are one of those utensils that are prettier to display than actually use :)
