HELP!! FLIES are taking over....?

Question:I'm not sure if this is the right category to put this in, BUT, I have a fly problem! They are all over the front of my house and I don't know why. We have alot of trees but I don't think this is why. But my problem is that they fly in my house everytime the door is open.and drive me crazy!
Is there a home remedy I can whip up to REPEL and or kill the little buggers?
Thanks in advance!

I had the same problem when I used to live in an old farm house in Missouri...except they had bred and hatched INSIDE the house in the walls or in a windowsill or something. As soon as it started getting hot outside, my bedroom window looked like something out of the Amityville Horror. If they are all over the outside of the house, they are breeding somewhere close by to where they are hanging out at. Seal all cracks around your windowsills, eaves and siding thoroughly. To keep them out of the house, try small/medium plastic ziploc baggies filled 3/4 of the way full of cold water. Tack up above your doorway on the outside of your door frame. The old-timers swear by this for keeping flies out of the house. Or you can gather up a bunch of the neighborhood kids and give them all fly-swatters...it will keep them occupied ALL day. Flies hatch when the warm weather really kicks in but thankfully flies have a very short life span..something like a day I think.

That is soooo weird cause I experienced this same thing . Come to find out there was a dead bird in our basement . Thus a breeding place for flies as they matured . Best to have someone check around to find the host breeding ground and get rid of it . Use a different entrance to enter and exit till you dispose of the problem . Perhaps try Hints from Heloise search . Also Jerry Baker has some great ideas for pest control .

Good Luck!!
Flies are a serious problem in horse barns. The best thing they found to control flies is a misting system. The mist is a "will not harm animals" mixture of pyrethrin and water (pyrethrin was from an extract taken from the chrysanthemum flower - pyrethrum), that kills flying insects by contact.

It is the same system the mosquito misting companies advertise as a "new system" specifically for killing mosquitoes. The truth is these systems have been around the horse business since the early 50s. It was designed to kill flies in barns and protect expensive horses, and is still used. After the West Nile virus scare surfaced, some young enterprising entrepreneurs found out the “fly killing” system used in barns also kills mosquitoes, so they put two and two together, changed the marketing, increased the price by over 400% to take advantage of the fear of West Nile, and there you have it, capitalism at work.

You can purchase the mister components and do-it-yourself, or you can have a mosquito system company install it for you. They can be easily pre-programmed, like a sprinkler system, to spray a fine mist in the areas the flies "hang" whenever you think the flies might be around.

I installed one on my own house for one-seventh the price I was quoted to control mosquitoes. It took me just over 4 hours to do the entire exterior perimeter of my 3100 sq. ft. single story house. I have not seen a mosquito, fly, spider, roach, etc. since I put the system in three weeks ago.

You can also buy a similar product to spray with a water hose and a bottle you connect to a garden hose, but you will have to re-spray every couple of weeks.
