A boring question about washing windows?

Question:If I want to wash all the external windows of a house, what is best to use?

Just soapy water, or is there something else I should be using?

Answers:
Yeah soapy water is great, also, there are cheap scrubbers and squeegees that make it a lot easier too. If the windowsills are really dirty and crumbly, a good kitchen sponge with a non-scratch scrubby side really helps too.

windex is best to wash windows :)
if the windows are really dirty then if you can reach them then use a soft scrub brush with water and soap (like joy liquid dishwasher detergent) first, then rinse. As you know soap will put a film on there. So you would then need to use either vinegar water or windex for the final scrub. Then wipe with a soft towel or squeegee.
you'll need:

a bucket of water with just a touch of dishwashing soap

2 handy-wipes

a squeegee

a roll of paper towels

use one of the handy-wipes for rubbing on the soapy water and one of the handy-wipes for keeping the squeege wiped off.

if you use just the corner to trim the top of the window you will have a dryer line to start your squeege.

use the paper towels if it looks like any water is going to leave a streak.

hopefully you don't have wood framed windows and if you do hopefully the panes are sealed well and they are painted.

once you start the squeege keep it going until you get to the bottom of the pane. overlap your strokes keeping your squeege pointed down on the side you have already squeeged. this will make the water go up the squeege and you will have fewer lines to paper towel.

good luck. its not hard but there is a reason they call them panes (pains).
there is a product out where you just attach it to a garden hose and just pray the windows. there is no rinsing and no streaking. I wish I could remember the name, but if you have a Home Depot or Lowe's near you, they might be able to help you.
No Andy, Windex won't do. Use this mix and you will never go back to Windex, never! In a spray bottle, 1/3 rubbing alcohol, 3/4 warm water, and a couple of squirts of Dawn dish washing liquid.(Light squirts) Use a squeegee, and some newspaper,to wipe the squeegee with. You'll never go back to Windex. Bye
You know what, metho is the best and it's better than any soapy product or window washer, just metho and a newspaper, walaaa!
Vinegar is the best way I found to wash windows. Mix equal parts water and vinegar. use old newspapers to dry them. There will be no streaks that way.
