Predator of garden snails?
Question:I live in the UK and have several thousand snails in my garden. I need some sort of bird to eat them all, because i hate them.
I have about six pidgeons in my garden but they won't eat snails and i am worryied that they will scare away other snail eating birds.
What birds do i need and how do i get them?
Answers:
Thrushes eat snails, they love them. It's funny watching them bash them to bits against stones.
Put out plenty of bird feeders to attract as wide a range of birds as you can. Eventually a thrush will come along, find that there's snails and keep coming back. He might tell all his thrush friends about it too.
Geese and ducks eat them. You could put some saucers of beer out, it attracts them and they drown.
DECOLLATE SNAILS
Decollate Snails will actually attack brown garden snails and eat them! And rather than slime around on walkways, they prefer to remain just under the surface which keeps them out of sight. Decollates will also feed on dead leaves which keeps them fed until they can find more snails. Decollate snails are shipped live in the box and may be introduced directly into the soil.
