Our climate is good for the big bing cherry trees. can I grow a couple trees from the pits?

Question:I got them from a grocery store. How do I start?
any info would be great!

Answers:
I don't think thats a good idea. The seed may germinate and grow, but not bear fruit. The trees that the cherries came from may be grafted from a wild cherry tree. That's called a cultivar. A seed from a cultivar pecan tree, will be steril, and never bear fruit. That may also be the same with cherry trees, I'm not sure.

I would go to a nursery and buy a good looking tree. You would save the time it takes to bear.

If you are just curious to see if it would grow, and what the tree will look like, go for it.

How long have you got? I think fruit seeds are not reliable as far as the ultimate result is concerned.
If I were you I'd search for a proper graft from some reliable source, so as not to be disappointed when in a few years' time your tree has its first crop of bing cherries.
