When using Tasmanian Myrtle Timber, what filler or putty should i use?


Question:Could i just use a standard putty and colour it with some saw dust. I'd prefer an actual Tasmanian Myrtle specific putty.

My experience with wood putty is that once you stain it, it takes on its own colour regardless of the wood it was meant to match. In my current project, which uses red oak, I tried a half dozen different putties, none of which matched well when stained. They all were darker in colour than the wood, meaning that they absorbed more stain. The best thing to do is keep your nail holes as small as possible. I use a brad nailer, which leaves a smaller hole:
