How to rid my apartment of clutter?
Question:I have way too much crap in my apartment..I'm not very good at organizing or knowing what to get rid of.How do I know what to keep and what to get rid of? Help!!!
For example.I have a ton of clothes. Some fit. Some would fit if I gained 10lbs and others would fit if I lost 10lbs. I have a ton of shoes. I have eight pairs of tennis shoes, but only wear 4. I have at least 15 pairs of brown shoes. They're all different. I only wear 5 of them because of my job and places I go out to. I could possibly wear the other 10 in the future, but I may not. The same goes for books, CD's, make up, and etc etc.
Answers:
Pack in cardboard boxes as if you were moving, and write the contents and date on the tops. If you haven't opened the box in 6 months, don't open it. Toss it or give it to Goodwill. If you haven't opened that box in that length of time, you don't need it. You're not going to wear those shoes in the future, they'll be out of style. And you're not going to gain or lose 10 pounds to get into that garment.
Start in one room. Be brutal. If if doesn't fit, if it's been over 6 months since you wore it, if it's no longer in style... donate it or throw it away. Same for the shoes. If you only wear 4 pairs, then you don't need 15. Once you see how neat one room can be, you will feel rewarded and other rooms will be easier to sort. You could try selling things on eBay, but again, it's a lot of work, and you want instant satisfaction. I live clutter free. We have a huge house, and it would be very easy to pack up and move if I wanted to. LOL I hate dusting around knicknacks. I love being clutter free. And besides, I love having an excuse to go out an shop if I drop a few pounds as it's sort of a payoff. =)
Well you can start by getting rid of anything you really dont care for looks/fit wise, then decide what fits and doesnt, then get rid of anything you havent worn in at least 6 months or more... and definetly get rid of the ones you have never worn cause you probably never will if you havent yet.
As for cd's... get rid of the ones you really dont like. Personally I believe you can NEVER have enough music so I never get rid of my cds unless they are damaged & I have a replacement for it already.
Make up... if it is older than 3 months they say to get rid of it. If its shades you really dont like or use, get rid of it...
Nic nacs and stuff laying around the place... pick a "theme" or decorating idea you want. For example say you are into the morden contemprary look... if it doesnt fit in with that, get rid of it. If it has sentimental value of course keep it (it belong to grandma or something etc...) Books... If it isnt a book you want to display on a book shelf or read again or may need for reference at a later time get rid of it.
Hope this helps some...
