I need to clean years of grime from my paving stones, what would be the best tool for the job?
Question:I'm thinking steam cleaner or jet washer but is there a better way?

depends on size and how much elbow grease you can put in... small cheap jet washer is good idea, but also cheap value bleach (very thin liquid type not gel) put into a sprayer and then spray a fine mist (be careful of eyes, skin & clothing etc) and then leave for 5 - 10 mins and then scrub with hard bristle broom - works wonders.

Jet washer is the best way - you can buy this special fluid for cleaning the stones but to be honest it is a waster of money - 4 weeks later and the grime starts to build up again. Buy a small jet washer for around £40 and you'll save in the long run

Hire a steam cleaner, we cleaned off my mums drive in a few minutes with one we got from a local hire shop.
I did mine the other week and used a jet washer. The patio is looking like it is brand new now. Just be careful when doing it as you may dislodge the concerete that is holding the slabs down.
pressure washer,fantastic tool . i picked one up in Morrison's supermarket for £25.00. it blasts the grime of my slabs,it cleans my decking.and i alter the nozzle for a more gentler spray to wash the car. best £25.00 Ive ever spent?
use a mixture of 50/50 water and bleach. scrub and rinse off, this also works on decks and outside walls where the rain splashes on the house.
power washer would be best or try CLR
