Answers:
Cucumbers and squash are very sensitive to acid levels.
You need to lime your soil, to reduce the acid levels. Also cucumbers and squash need low nitrogen levels ( 25 - 35g/sq m)
Sounds like they need more water. You can also try Jerry Bakers tonics @ http://www.jerrybaker.com/index.asp?page...
I suggest using the Clean up tonic first then use the Green up tonic the week after. They will get rid of disease and make your plants nice and green.
The best way to ensure that your vegetables grow properly is to keep the soil amended with a good variety of compost.
If the parent plants are getting everything they need from the soil, and receive adequate sunshine and watering, they should set and yield their fruits without trouble.
There are environmental conservation and agriculture departments where you can take samples of your soil to be tested. They can identify what it's lacking or over saturated with and tell you what to use to give it a healthy balance. You can sometimes have this done in the botany center of a local university or technical college.
