Ideas on what to do with a new flat?

Question:I've just put a rent offer in on a new flat, it's all been completely redecorated - all new floors etc but all the walls through out are plain white with recess spot lights.
Looks like I am going to get it but not sure what to do with the rooms! Can't paint it or anything due to rent conditions... any ideas on furniture styles and things to make it look good and modern but that aren't too expensive? I'm not sure what sort of themes/colours to go with in the living room and bedrooms! Me and my partner are a young (early 20's couple) and he's leaving it all up to me!

Plain white is the standard color. The single thing that draws attention seems to be the shower curtain. Seriously. It's the stricking contrast in a world of stark white. Other factors are clean cabinets and soap trays. You probably can paint it if it's white paint, ask. Your choice would be flat white, semi gloss and gloss. Each type of paint produces an effect. Try semi gloss on the ceiling and flat on the walls and work with color themes for accessories and furniture.
