What is the best way to eliminate moles from my yard? My dogs are destroying the yard trying to get them.?
Question:I live in the country and have begun to treat the yard for grubs and other insects.
Answers:
mix bleach and amonia in the hole and cover it.
Get a cat, preferably female and I'm serious. I've got voles, cousins to moles, and I've tried everything imaginable to get rid of them. Then I got a couple of cats, and my female is a great hunter (the male just kind of pretends to). She's brought me 1/2 a dozen "presents" this year so far...all of them dead VOLES! Does she ever get the praise!
Moles can be controlled with traps and poisons such as calcium carbide and strychnine.
The castor plant is known as the "mole plant", because of its reputation as a mole-repelling companion plant. It contains several substances that are either toxic, or just unpleasant, and may emit some of these into the soil via its roots. Castor oil, too, is advocated as a mole repellant.
Other common remedies for moles include cat litter and blood meal, to repel the mole, or flooding/smoking out its burrow. There are also devices sold for simply trapping the mole in its burrow, when one sees the "mole hill" moving and therefore knows where it is, and then stabbing it.
Placing predator urine around your yard can also be effective, if you can find a vendor who sells fox or bobcat urine and if you can stand the smell...
another option is a repeller. you can buy them for about $20 at home depot. Don't know how good they work but its a fairly simple solution
Put Garlic down the holes and cover the holes back up with the dirt. They hate the smell of Garlic and it is safe for your dogs.
