Hi
This sounds like the brown tail moth caterpillars!Warning

Don't touch them!
The hairs on their bodies cause allergic reactions they can also float in the air!
Notify your local council ,they will deal with them and should provide you with information. If you have touched them seek medical advice.

I have heard that it is a type of moth, it was once on the news about them, but I can't remember the fine detail
heat not enough water clear the weeds with a weed and feed that is used for lawns fertlize because the weeds eat up a lot of what they need check for bugs and bites.
you have spider mites. Spray with a pyrethrin based insecteside.
sounds like spider mites. go buy some outdoor/garden raid
They are caterpillar nests. A few weeks more and hundreds of tiny caterpillars will emerge.
It is the Vapourer moth that does that-they can do quite severe damage to thorn hedges. If it is an important hedge you could try a garden insecticide(tumblebug)
They are Moth caterpillars. The trees look bad,
but will recover.
