Decorators poured paint down loo - I need to get rid of it using something that can go down drains - how?
Question:The decorators poured paint down the loo - there is now a thick deposit at the base under the water. The paint is probably the matt from the walls - but they also used gloss on the radiator. I think the loo is a porcelain bowl. I need to shift it, but can't use anything that cannot safely go down drains, so white spirit, paint stripper etc are all out. Please can anyone tell me what I can use to get rid of it. In places it is quite thick.

Any chance of getting the decorators back to clear it up? otherwise you need to check whether it's emulsion or not. Try pushing all the water round the u bend with the brush, and a sort of plunging action, then you can try scrubbing at it with a stiff brush and see if it comes off. Maybe you can get it off with the toilet brush if it's emulsion. otherwise you will have to use thinners on a cloth, because there's no water you can rub it off before flushing it again.
I would get the decorators to get the problem resolved for you as it was them that caused the problem.
Why should you have to go through the expense of resolving it when it was their fault.?
Get a plumber in to sort it then give the bill to the decorators.
The builders bl**dy head.
1) write letter of complaint to decorators
2) insist manager comes out to see damage
3) ask for money for new loo plus cost of being fitted
Not very nice of the decorators, or very professional.
Try forcing the water over the trap(bend) and soak up the paint with old rags. Then scrape off any paint thats stuck to the bowl with wire wool and clean with white spirit and soft rags, making sure the spirit doesnt go over the trap.
May take some time and patience...good luck
hope the decorators are going to help pay for your inconvenience!could try hot water and soap powder it may loosen the oil somewhat? best of luck
Emulsion is water-soluble.
It wouldn't have 'set' and would just wash away.
It'll be the gloss that you have sticking to the bowl. Don't know what to use.
