IS it a real wood fireplace? If so , you need a fireplace wood grate, (holds the wood) a ,of course a fire screen, a log starter pipe. That should run the length of the wood grate or holder. And make sure your chimney is for real wood and not gas. If it isn't, it'll burn your house down! Hook up the Log starter to the gas valve sticking out of the inside of the fireplace. You might need a elbow. a galvanised one 1/2 " I'm sure. Connect the starter with Teflon tape .Wrap three times, and no more. Set the grate on top of that. Make sure the flew is in the open position. Than lay your wood criss cross top the grate. Turn the handle on the gas valve and have a lighted match next to the log lighter. You don't need to turn the gas on full blast. It will light with a loud boom kinda and scare you. it does me'. Anyway, only let the burner run for about 20 minutes than you can shut it off, and the fire will be going. Bye
There should be a control for air in and air out. Never let smoke come in the house that is unhealthy after not to much time. You want to start with the fire and keep the air out open. When the fire gets going cut back the outgoing air and feel the heat coming in. Open the outgoing air and stoke the fire and repeat the closing to the same spot on the outgoing air then cut the incoming air just a little. You want to keep a draft so the smoke goes out but cut it back so some heat will come in otherwise the heat will just go out with the smoke.
