We Smoked In My House?

Question:My parents went out of town, and were supposed to be gone for two weeks. My girlfriend and I smoked a lot of cigarettes in my house, and now it reeks. Just now, my parents called and said that they were coming home tomorrow night. I have less than 24 hours to get rid of the smell. (They are very anti-smoking and will kill me if they find out.) Until they get home, my girlfriend and I are going to smoke inside my car, but how can I get rid of the smell in the house? (Keep in mind, we smoked about 2 cartons worth of cigarettes inside the house in the last few days with the windows and doors closed.) Please help!

The other answers so far are pretty good. Open the windows now! Turn on all fans that you can. Use oust or febreze on all upholstered surfaces--you are going to have to do several applications. Throw everything in the washer that you can--including all of the clothes that you wore while smoking. Wash the walls. Make sure that all cigarette butts are out of the house and wash all things you used as ash trays. Vacuum the floor. Burning candles helps, too. . .though, good luck keeping them lit if you have all of the fans on! Don't know where you live, but if you had the air conditioner on, you'll need to change the filters (the smell will come through the filters the next time it is turned on otherwise).

It's going to be a lot of work, but you can make the smell go away if you are diligent.

And don't smoke in the house anymore between now and then! But I'm sure you already know that ;)

Open the windows! Get some Oust and Febreeze.
Open all the windows, get some fans going, and spray some airfreshner (oust or febreeze). Wash the curtains, blankets, anything that you can. You can also wash the walls down.

They are still going to be able to smell it, because people who don't smoke tend to notice it. Hope you don't get in to much trouble.
Open the windows, sprinkle arm and hammer baking soda on the carpet and let it set over night, then vacuum it up. Spray fabreeze around and good luck.
open all the windows. spray everything porous (carpet, drapes, sofa, etc.) with febreeze. anything that can be laundered needs to go into the wash machine. also vacuum all the carpets and furniture. be sure to change the vacuum bag before your parents come home.
Own up to it and admit your sins. NOTHING will hide the smell unless you can get your carpets cleaned, all the upholstery, curtains, linen, etc. THEN you will need to clean the windows, walls etc. If your family are anti smoking they will know if someone has smoked in your house.
There is a reason why they don't like it. It is a smelly vile poison. Enough of the lectures, I suggest you clean what you can and admit to it.
get all the baking soda you can afford and just open the boxes and spread them out
put it at return air duct also
then quit doing this stupid ****
or you could start a small fire somewhere and let it smoke up the house, then call the insurance company, i think they call that insurance fraud though
open windows and buy stock in fabrease..

will this violate SEC regs? LOL
You can buy candles at Walmart and at some tobacco shops that help to get rid of the scent of burned tobacco in the air. They are called Lord Byron's Smokers Candles and are not expensive. They do not however get rid of the smoke smell in fabrics, the febreeze might help out there. Next time don't smoke where you know you aren't suppose to and you won't have that problem. Or better yet, don't smoke at all, it is a nasty habit that makes your clothes and hair and breath stink, and is very bad for your health. I am a nurse who has seen a lot of people die from lung diseases caused by smoking and it is not a pretty sight.
wow you are seriously screwed...it is in the carpets, the furniture, the curtains, the bedding, the towels...there really isn't any product that truly rids anything of smoke smell (although some products claim to - consumer's digest proved otherwise) you can get febreeze & do a ton of laundry - but the smell will creep out from the furniture eventually...

why in the world would you go against your parents like that in their home?

Even if you use a lot of air fresheners, your parents are going to wonder why the house smells like a bunch of flowers when they come home, and ask what you were doing that needed air freshener...
I would follow all the cleaning instructions previously mentioned and then create a "decoy" smell. Maybe burn some food on the stove or find some rotting produce somewhere and place it in the trash can. If you have a pet, let it do its business indoors. You'll get in trouble for burning the food and not taking out the trash, but it sounds like you'd get in more trouble for the cigarettes.
This sounds fake. You smoked two cartons of cigarettes within a few days? I would think that the smell of you would drive them nuts.

As someone who does not smoke, I can tell you that it is VERY easy to detect cigarette smoke, and nothing you do will clear up the house in a matter of 24 hours. They will smell it, do you realize that cigarette stink gets into anything with a cloth material? That means clothes, sofas, pillows, drapes, carpet, bedding, etc.

Good luck.
Keep all the windows open, turn on some fans, light some insence, burn a candle or two, and spray Fabreeze on the couches and chairs and whatever else you smoked on/near.
And next time you smoke inside, keep a window or two open, or just smoke outside.
