If we bought a used futon with a mattress, could I use the mattress?
Question:Would I need to get rid of the mattress or would there be a safe way of disinfecting it? Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!
Answers:
Well depends on how thick it is. I would defently disinfect it with cleaner and let it air dry. Also add a good mattress cover over it.
=/ watch for bed bugs.. i duno we had to get rid of ours..
idk but that is how i got crabs
I would avoid the used mattress and spring for a new one. A new futon mattress shouldn't be that expensive.
Just to be safe I would get a new mattress unless you know the person well.
go with a new one, you'll sleep better knowing that it's new lol
It depends. Do you know the person you bought it from. If not, get a new one (they're pretty cheap). I bought one from the people who sold me my house and I knew that it was in a spare room and almost never used, so I kept it.
I wouldn't suggest it but if you know the people u got it from & consider them "clean" then maybe you can but either way I would first spray it down with an ENTIRE can if LYSOL or another disenfecting spray, you can also us e a solution of bleach & water & get a scrub brush (as long as it is white) and scrub the entire mattress down & let it dry before spraying w/Lysol to kill ANY GERMS but if it has fleas or bedbugs (or lice like someon else mentioned), you still might be putting oyurself in danger of catching something. I once used a secondhand mattress but the people who gave it to me were VERY CLEAN and I hd no reason to think otherwise yet I Still did what I suggested you do above, just to be on the safe side and you can also look into buying a zippered coverlet for it so that any creepy crawlers that might be hiding in the mattres can't get out. Good Luck to you.
