No it will ruin it, They do sell models that are tall and narrow to use in windows that are not wide enough. they are called casement units.
ABSOLUTELY NOT!! The oil in the com presser needs to be level . Surely it's a bummer that the A/C wont fit in the window unless ya stand it up. Trust me..if you want that A/C to work...Don't turn it on it's side. Good Luck!
