Can anybody think of a foolproof way for me to remember my keys before going outside?

Question:I am moving into an apartment with doors that automatically lock when you close them, and I have a horrid track record for remembering my keys. Can anybody think of some way for me to remember this? I've thought of a few ideas, but would appreciate other people's input.

Answers:
Always put them in your purse.

Hang them by the door.

Post a reminder on the door.

Attach the keys to the inside of the doorknob. When you exit the door the keys will be in the way and then you shouldn't forget them. You could also make a few spares to keep in your car or purse/wallet.
get a wrist band and like...tie them to it. and keep the wristband on your wrist...always! haha...or a chain around ur neck, like..dog tags :D
Put a nail on the inside of your door and hang your keys there so that they are the last thing you see before you leave the house. Another really good way for you to remember your keys is your get your butt locked out once or twice.
1) Attach them to your car keys. If you are leaving, you will most likely drive and if you drive you will take your house key!

2) Make a spare key and leave it in your car

3) Put a key in your wallet / purse

4) Have a family member keep a key for you incase you lock yourself out
Always wear your keys on a lanyard around your neck. Then you'll always have your keys with you no matter what. Develop the habit of wearing them and you'll be fine.
Be like Janet Jackson in the 80's. She wore her key on her earring.
I do like the one where you hang your keys on the door knob...No way to forget them that way.
Or attach it to something you wear every day, like a watch.
Right next to the door, AT EYE LEVEL, put up a hook and hang your keys from it. Until it becomes an everyday habit to grab them, maybe keep something eye catching or sparkly also hanging from the hook. Maybe also hang a small mirror right next to the hook.anything to catch your eye as you grab the doorknob.

I suggest also giving a copy of the key to a trusted friend or family member, just in case.
Put the keys on the floor right in front of the door. If the door doesn't hit the keys if you open it without picking them up then put something else there with the key to block the door incase you do open it without picking up the key. Be sure you never lay anything over the key that would block it from your site. This happened to me. I had a towel by the door to wipe my dogs feet with and layed it over the key and thought I would move it later. oops!
I hope this works for you too.
This won't work if you have a puppy that eats keys. ha ha
having spare keys would help too. Even an emergency key tied on your car engine where you can reach it from underneath might come in handy sometime.
hey from what I remember when I lived in an apartment, the door, your door that goes out of your apartment is metal, so that a magnet would stick to it? I found a link for you that creates custom single magnets:

http://www101.iprint.com/cgi-shl/index.c...

The ceramic tile style/size looks like it would be good, i'd create either one or two, or however many you need that would say something like 'DO YOU HAVE YOUR KEYS?' or something catchy so you'll look at the door before you open it and it will remind you.

If you don't like the ones on that site, just do a search for Custom Magnets, alot of sites are for promo products for businesses but you should be able to find one that has single ones available.

If you don't have a metal door, find some way to attach something to your door that you will see.
The thing that's always worked for me in your situation is to have an extra apartment-door key made and put it on a small, separate keychain. Use this key to open your door every time you go in and immediately put this key in your pants pocket. Don't bring this single door key inside and put it down anywhere at all inside your apartment. (This way, you won't have to worry about your apartment key, your car keys and all the other keys you probably have clanking around on your main keychain - put that one down on a table or wherever once you're inside your apartment.)

And if/when you change your clothes after work, move the key from your pocket to the new pocket before you even put on the new pair of pants. The point is to make sure you have your apartment key on you at all times. One key on a small, thin keychain shouldn't cause a problem.

You could then really try to get into the habit of just feeling your pants pocket for your key before you even think of opening your door and leaving your apartment. If you force yourself to get into this habit, it should work like a charm.

Good luck - :)
