My window air conditioner is leaking water from the front all over my floors. What should I do?

Question:I have a small 5,000 BTU in-window a/c. I bought it new last year. It leaked a little last year, but since I have installed it this summer, it seems to be leaking more. Is there anything I can do short of taking it to get repaired?

Answers:
You probably don't have it set in the window so that the back of the air conditioner is slightly tilted downwards.

You need to have it tilted that way to drain the condensation towards the back and outside.

Also, make sure that the filter is clean. That might be why you are experiencing more condensation from it this year.

call someone to fix it
Make sure that it tilts to the back ever so slightly. And look for the drain hole underneath outside... It could be plugged. As an A.C. unit works, moisture in the air collects on the eveporator (the part that gets cold) and drains down to the base, so "getting it repaired" is NOT AN OPTION as it is working correctly.

Hope this helps.
I had the same problum I lowered the back so condesion goes out the back Also clean the filter often an i had to take mine out of case and wash it out about every 2 -3 months I have centeral ac now
It sounds like it's tilted wrong. has to be sloping down on the outside.
The water is condensation from the condenser. There should be a drain plug on the outside of the unit that you can open to drain out the excess water.
I had a similar ac and over the years it too developed a splash. Splash as in spewing out water! I finally took it in for repairs, but the estimate they gave me was more than it was worth, so I got another one at a yard sale. They say it is far better to have a refrigerated air conditioner instead of the swamp cooler, which wastes a lot of water. Good luck.
get it checked out by a repairman (don't do without if it's hot at your place). You may be trying to keep your place too cool and it's trying to freeze up on you and that's why it's leaking, but, get a professional opinion, and use a lot of insulation on your windows and doors, and use fans alternatively.
