What's the best way to keep mosquitoes away when we're on the patio?
Question:It's a bad year for mosquitoes here in the midwest. I'm having a gathering for Memorial Day and I know they are going to force us inside if I don't do something. With kids there I don't want to use anything so toxic that the parents will worry. I've seen sprayers that somehow attach to propane tanks. I've seen electric zappers, I've seen spray cans and granuals and citronella candles. Help!
Answers:
Mosquitos dont like the smell of marigolds and will stay away. Not going to help for Mem Day if you dont have them. But, yes, Avon's Skin So Soft will keep them away. Avon does have stores you can visit-you dont have to order.
I cant believe citronella isnt toxic. It gives me a headache and sick to my stomach. Zappers are for bugs that are attracted to light. I think the skeeters are attracted to human scent (blood). I'd go w Avon. Deep Woods Off is also effective.
Good Luck and Have Fun. (Remember our soldiers. Apparently they're dispensible. They need to come home!)
there are lights that keep them away and get baby oil and rub on you or even a dryer sheet works
Forget the citronella and the electric zappers. Try one of the foggers maybe an hour before guests arrive. They work pretty good but they are smelly if you try using them when the peopke arrive.
Mosquito nets.
there are some plants you can keep around your patio that is supposed to keep mosquitoes away. They are kind of ugly plants though. Try asking your local nursery, mine always has a few in stock.
Avon has a skin product that works great for knats and mosquitos...it's called skin so soft..after a few years they finally figured out why so many men were buying the stuff and I believe they have a anti-"bug" version now.
You can buy a bat house at your local hardware store. It wont solve the problem immediately buy it would be a long term fix.A single bat can catch and eat as many as 350 mosquitoes in one hour. Install it away from the house somewhere and in good sun. Plus you will never see the bats because they eat at night.
