How the #&%*@ do you get rid of sand fleas?

Question:my basement is infested with sand fleas. can i do anything to get rid of them short of bombing the whole house? i have small kids and really dont want to fill the house with poison.

Answers:
place a pan of water on the floor and put a desk lamp on the floor next to it. the fleas will jump at the light (heat source) and fall into the water and drown. completely safe around kids and pets. i have used this method for years.

I would call Terminex, or a place that actually rids your house of infestations if you don't want to bug bomb the place. Actually, if you do bug bomb the house, just stay out of it for 24 hours...go sleep at families or friends house/ or shell out the $70+ for a motel/hotel.
20 mule team borateem (sold where detergents are sold--I think Walmart carries it) spread out all over the floor, leave it overnight, or is it 24 hours. Then vacuum it up. Don't sweep, raises dust.

It gets rid of regular fleas, as I recall.

Borax is poisonous, don't let kids or pets near it.
I do not know if this will work on sand fleas but on dog and cat fleas we use nematodes. You can get them at any good farm or ranch feed store.

The old saying is that very dog has his fleas. Well nematodes are a fleas flea. They lay their eggs on the flea. The eggs hatch in about two hours and bore into the flea and eat the flea from the inside out.

A one pound can will cover about 300 square feet.

If that fails use Skin-So-Soft from Avon. Delute one quart in a 10 gallon pale of water and spray the whole place. You must get all the shelves and stuff out first then soak the whole place.

Soapy water will sometimes work too.

If that is not effective the call an exterminator. They may have a solution that is safe around children

Best wishes
Hey when I lived in the Virginia Beach area I used to have a beach house and before i would enter the house I would throw a Big white beach towel in to the house..they jump on it first instead of you..then you retrieve the towel outside and put it into a plastic bag..repeat the process til they are gone. but do it every time before you go in I know it sounds lengthly but it does work alot better than chemicals..what you do it close the plastic bag you are suffocating the little suckers..then everytime i would go on vacation to the carribean clothes went into a plastic bag before i closed up the suitcase because I didn't want any jamiacan sand flea in my house..and I even put the suitcases in there as well if you want to suck them up in to a vacumn..after you get them suffcated..ticks that the kids would bring on them i would get them off put them in an envelope seal it then put it in the microwave for 30 seconds you can hear them pop but I think it is better to kill them off that way and know they are gone.. i am so meanie butt ..
