Our next door neighbors are white trash, please help with the cat?
Question:Our next door neighboors only mow the lawn when it becomes a field, they have trash sitting all around their yard, they have brush and branches laying all around their yard and at the end of their driveway [we think they thought the trash people would pick them up but it has been laying their ever since we moved in and they have not done anything about it], they have four dumpsters overflowing with trash sitting all around their yard, they have computers, treadmills, gliders, chairs, etc. sitting on the driveway...so bad that one day they moved them around and they sun had made the imprint on their driveway. Anyway, they do not take care of theirs cats and they keep coming in our yard. We want them gone but when we called the county they said there is no animal control where we live and there is nothing we can do, please help!

I’m so sorry to hear about your neighbors. You can call the health department is come out and assess the garbage problem. However, if they are a white trash as you are saying, the garbage will just build back up again once it is gone. Plus, they may do something to your house. As a last resort, you can pay to have the garbage company to come by and pick up the trash at the curb and empty the dumpsters. However, again it will just build up and result in their thinking that if they leave it long enough it will take care of it’s self.
Sprinkle some cayenne pepper in all of your flower beds so the cats will not dig into the ground. Block anyway the cats are getting under your house with some chicken wire. You can also rent some ‘have a heart’ animal traps from your local animal control, hardware store, or buy some. Start catching the cats and taking them to the Humane Society.
On the positive side, at least the cats are keeping down the rats that must be living in all of that trash. If you get rid of the cats, the rats might take over, and I’d take cats over rats any time.
Do they own the house? If not call the landlord and tell him/her about the trash problem. You can find out easily by going to the town hall and looking at property records.
call the county health department they will come out and assest the issue and give them a warning after 2 times they get a ticket and after 2 tickets in most states they get an order notice from the courts. also go to your community council group if you have one
This may sound inhumane, but my old, single, cat-loving lady neighbor has probably 15 cats that eat my flowers and garden, so I spray them with the garden hose any time I see them in my yard. They stop coming after a while! As for the trash, you can file a complaint if you live in city limits. Most cities have trash ordinances and rules on keeping your grass cut, etc. and you can get your neighbors to do the same thing. I'm sure if the problem is as bad as you make it sound, your neighbors would be happy to help out.
Sounds awful. I think your best bet is to move.
Holey-Moley! We have your neighbor's cousins right here in North Carolina next to our property! lol
We are saving for a tall privacy fence and also have bought some "Animal Rid" at Wal-Mart to sprinkle around our yard to try and get their animals to stay on their property.
There are regulations in our area but they just disregard them and if you report them there could be some retaliation, sheesh I don't know why these people exist, the cockroaches of human-kind.
I had the same problem. What you can do set up live traps, you can buy them at the farm supply store. Put a can of cat food in there as bait & then take the cat to a local animal shelter. Then come home & set up the trap again. Soon the cat population should decline.
